THE DIFFERENT COAT TYPES IN DOODLES
There are many different coat types in Doodles.
Until several repeat breedings of desired coat types is achieved, doodles can have different types of coats in each litter. Undesired coat types must be bred out to achieve the desired coat consistently.
Genetic testing plays a huge role in achieving these desired coats. We can test the parents for genes that carry shedding, length, curl, and improper coats, not to mention colors.

Wool Coat: A wool coat is more about the feel than the look. It feels like a wool blanket. It is not soft to the touch and has a wiry type curl to it. Though these coats are said to be non shedding, it is not always the case. They tend to be low shedding, if any.

Wavy Fleece Coat

Hair Coat: A hair coat is coarse, slightly wavy to straight, dense, and high shedding. We usually see these coats in the first generation puppies.

Improper Coat: An improper coat comes from a gene passed down from the labrador and golden retrievers. This causes puppies to have smooth faces with no long hair on the face and shorter hair on the legs. They can have a longer wavy fleece coat on their ears and body. Shedding is usually low to moderate.
